After spending last couple of weeks researching water birth and birth pools, I just discovered I’m pregnant! Isn’t that amazing? And is incredibly mind blowing, since being inside the picture makes everything way more real!
I have no doubts about my birth plan; I knew way before discovering. My goal is to have a home water birth, with an independent midwife and my partner. I’m not sure if I want more people present on the day. I feel extremely grateful for being so much involved with babies, pregnancy and birth for the past year. It gave me so much insight, and it still doesn’t feel real that I’m going through the same now!
I think I will opt for an inflatable birth pool. I like the idea of having a soft place to kneel and lean over. And I will probably have more babies, so I’ll just keep it stored and reuse it when needed. There is so much information out there concerning water birth and how it can help women achieving an easier natural delivery. I think every mum to be should do some research, and would soon find out this facts.
Not everyone is ready for a home birth, and there are some cases where is advisable to labo
r on “dry land”. Your midwife will guide you with the options and is very important to keep an open mind since everything can change! If you are still looking for a water birth in a hospital, some provide tubs and some allow you to bring your birth pool with you.
I am totally focused on a 100% natural home water birth, but I am also aware and open to the possibility of needing to go to the hospital if an emergency arises. The good thing is that I have discovered that in such an event, if you need an emergency c-section for example, being in hospital will not mean that you will be assisted quicker. The time they have to get the room ready is not less than 30 min. You are not advised to labor at home when it is further then 15min from nearest Hospital. Doing the math, I have no doubts about safeness at home, and trust my body to the task ahead. Even being the first time.
Always check with your midwife and/or doctors which are the safest options for your labor.
